How to recognize a real Marseille soap
Share
To recognize real Marseille soap, you need to know its different characteristics.
There are two types of soap: green and white. Green soap is made from olive oil to which copra and palm oil are added. The difference with white soap? The latter does not contain olive oil but peanut oil.
The “extra-pure” soap contains 72% of these oils, which are themselves 100% vegetable.
If it is considered natural, it is because it does not contain any synthetic colorants or additives.
The manufacture of Marseille soap is also very precise. It is done in a cauldron by mixing soda and oils. There is then a whole development process: mashing, de-spinning (removal of impurities), cooking, releasing, pouring, drying and finally cutting and stamping.
The famous soap is stamped on 6 sides on which we can read "72% oil" then the name and brand of the soap factory that made it.
It is traditionally sold in 600 gram cubes but can now be found in other formats: soap bars, liquid, etc. It also comes in different scents: lime blossom, lavender, honeysuckle, lily of the valley, anise, lemon, etc.
Marseille soap is experiencing a resurgence of interest thanks to its natural properties. It is appreciated by those who pay particular attention to the components of their beauty care as well as their impact on the environment.
